What is a Multiviewer?
A multiviewer is a display device that allows users to monitor multiple video inputs simultaneously on a single screen. It is ideal for meeting spaces, places of worship and even home use. With HDMI multiviewer setups, users can enjoy their favorite TV shows and sports channels while focusing on the tasks at hand.
Broadcasters need to keep tabs on multiple live feeds at once in order to ensure that broadcasting goes smoothly. Having a multiviewer helps them quickly identify and rectify errors in the broadcast and monitor all of the feeds from one screen.
Multiviewers have changed the design and implementation of control rooms, making them more efficient and allowing for higher quality viewing. They started out in the broadcasting industry alongside production switchers but have now become a staple for any AV company that needs to monitor video and audio signals.
The operation of a multiviewer is usually divided into different stages. The first stage performs a deserialization process that converts serial data into individual frames. This is followed by a color conversion from YCbCr to RGB and then positioning of the frames on the final layout. It is also possible to add graphics (picture-in-picture, etc) and muxing to the incoming feeds to be displayed on a screen.
HDMI multiviewers are easy to operate and have numerous customization options available for the user. This is important because everyone works differently, so it is crucial to choose a setup that fits their workflow.
